Excellent post. Enjoyed the YouTube video as well.

"...I think the theory of evolution is great as far as it goes..."

Spinning? Winning!

What's sad is that Dan illustrated the point of the video wonderfully... the evidence supports some change, but not all? The YouTube video has a simple illustration of the horse fossil record, you can see it at wikipedia :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_of_the_horse

More categorical information, as well as a better presentation of the data and the evolutionary tree :

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/horses/horse_evol.html

Another good presentation of the data :

http://darwiniana.org/horses.htm

... so yeah. I saw a commentary on NPR about 'science nay-sayers' that this reminded me a lot of. The same science that gave us microwave ovens and CAT scans tells us that the earth is billions of years old. The same science that gives us vaccines and chemotherapy also shows us that we've evolved. You can't just take the good parts (Tv, internet, a better lightbulb) and throw away the parts that don't agree with you!

It is likewise with evolution. We might not know all the details, but you can't throw out the whole working, tested, predictive theory just because we're missing a few pieces of the puzzle, all on the basis of.... (wait for it)... "God did it".

"The theory of evolution is actually supported with a wide array of evidence. Evolution is right up there with basic principles of elementary physics in terms of observational support."
You know, I think the theory of evolution is great as far as it goes, but it's not true to say that it's supported by a "wide array of evidence." It certainly isn't "up there with the basic principles of elementary physics in terms of observational support," since no one has ever observed it. We've observed micro-evolution (small changes within a species, for instance--humans have known about that for a long time) but not macro-evolution. Your wolf/deer analogy is not good, because it assumes there is a similar overwhelming amount of data available for macro-evolution, but there isn't. There's some very intelligent guesswork based on some data, but that's all we can say right now.
I liked your recent philosophical paradox post, though--funny.
